Gorillaz NEEDS to be in the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame, their contribution to music is just outstanding. Not and overstatement by any means, when the time arrives, they need to be there, I truly believe they already reached that level some time ago.Blending so many genres and constantly churning out fresh material speaks volumes.I wish them their best through this journey called life, and I am happy we all get so share it in the present, even if for me just means connecting to the music they release.

i agree. another non-overexaggerated statement, they are the only band to do what they have done. Like you said, the very best word to describe them is outstanding. No one can replicate their sound because they are always evolving, mixing genres, etc. idk whether or not they are in the rock and roll hall of fame, but they definitely belong there and I mean that. not even just from a fan point of view, also from an objective one.

I can't explain it fully, but something about the instrumentalism and the nature of this song FEELS like you're on a boat going down a river in a brisk wind on an overcast day. They nailed it.

Can’t believe it’s been three years since this came out, this was definitely my favorite song from the song machine. Phase 6 was a great one. Crazy to think this came out right before the pandemic got bad haha.

Heya, I'm late to the party, I discovered the album only yesterday. I don't know if anyone has said this before, but "désolé" ("sorry" in English) also means desolate/deserted/ravaged in French. Which means that "désolé" applies to 2D and Murdoc in more ways than you might think. 2D is sorry that things ended the way they did, he's also devastated by the abusive relationship he had with the bassist, but it's Murdoc who is deserted, isolated.

Interesting interpretation, I read a comment that had a slightly different interpretation, that the song is about Murdoc being sorry for all the pain he has caused the band, especially 2 D, which is why he is so sad and by himself, because he either apologized or feels too guilty to have fun with them. I kind of associated this song after that with all the people who have hurt me who never actually apologized for it telling me they are sorry, or rather than them telling me they are sorry, life itself apolozing on their behalf and wanting me to move on and heal and enjoy the catharsis of that heaking and the joy life has to offer after we heal from the wounds others inflict on us.

The lyrics are adorable. Even cuter in Damon’s smooth voice(or 2D if you prefer). And the collaberator’s accent and voice is such a beautiful add. They really branch out to every song they make. We know it’s made with love. PS: 2D’s French dictionary is the cutest add ever. PSx2:Russel looks so cute 😭

Man diawara is so good in this, really glad gorrilaz managed to get her, haven't heard of her before this but im really glad I got the chance to listen to her in this, also she looked great in this too! Her clothes are so vibrant and her joy really adds to the boat riding scenes.

I love how in this song, the bass is quieter than other of Gorillaz's songs. I can still hear it, but compared to a song like Feel good inc. or Clint Eastwood, it's more subtle, letting other instruments shine for once. And that for the most part, the bass is low compared to the song in general. It's doing it's own thing while the other instruments do theirs.

Just got to see Fatouamata Diawara live in Vancouver, BC recently; her joie d’vivre comes out in full glory in-person. What a soul!

3 years have gone by, and I still love this song, it was the beginning of COVID and I was scared and in my apartment, struggling with the weight of the world, and this made me feel heard

So for everyone who hasn't seen it yet: Murdoc said on twitter that he wasn't actually crying, it was acting. In order to act like he was crying, he thought of all the horrible things that he did do his friends and how ashamed he is of himself So, he basically acted like he was crying but he actually cried.

I never thought I’d see Murdoc crying on a couch, I guess this means that Murdoc feels like he isn’t needed anymore, feels like he doesn’t have a purpose for the band now that everyone has moved on, and maybe he feels bad for how he treated everyone like crap. I understand why Murdocs sad, and it was more than just the boat trip. The song and visuals represent the band not needing Murdoc to be with them anymore. Murdoc is realizing this and hides in his box Murdoc centered his whole life around this band, he has no other interests, (a good) family, or friendships outside of it He literally sold his soul for these people, but then they realize they didn’t need him to begin with. He has nothing left and that’s what’s sad.

its sad but also real. he put it all out for the band....but he also punished people a lot for not being what HE wanted. he didnt realize it was a two way street until he got kicked out of the car and took an outside view. and now that he has that perspective and now that hes back he realizes the bed hes made and the bed he has to sleep in. hopefully with time he will come to understand they arent pushing him out.....but they also arent his to control anymore, they've built their lives since his exile and now hes gotta built to stand back at the same level with them. its why good ol Ace takes the appearance of one of the vast monsters in the sky after his epiphany. he realizes that there are people who made such a massive impact on the rest of the group by simply just being there to help. simply giving them what they need without being toxic....and now until hes ready to get out of that box he has to work on himself

I know it's a bit too late but this song always tugs at me, reminds me of late July, 6:34 in the morning. I hadn't slept after watching blade runner with my boyfriend. He was on a plane traveling to meet me irl for the first time. And I was just showering with the all the doors open, cold morning air flowing though my house, sleep refusing to take me cause of excitement and stomach sick from butterflies. God i miss that feeling.

This has to be the most interesting gorillaz song. It’s like the vibes of all of their previous albums combined

I first saw gorillaz play in Liverpool around 23 years ago ...I've seen them many times since and they just get better and better .. Just weird... Because before Murdoc was like the head of the band with 2D, but now no one cares about him, including Noodle and Russel, especially after Murdoc went to jail and 2D moved on and made "Humility" by him self. Hints his eyes going from Black to White. 2D is a changed man now.... I mean lets be honest... the songs they've been making have been sounding waaaayyy better without Murdoc. It's been a long time coming but 2D has hit his characters prime "character development" since this all started 20 years ago. Such a weird story!

Critical-RAGE, I agree. The band seems so much happier without Murdoc. Like, let’s compare Desole with Momentary bliss. Momentary bliss is a heart racing pumping song whereas Desole is more calm and kinda chill (which I guess many people like). Murdoc was is Momentary bliss and he wasn’t really involved in Desole reflecting the two different sides of the song. Murdoc is kinda like the minor and 2D is the major. Correct me if I’m wrong.

Oh god I'm one of those people who comment "I can't believe it's been 4 years" now. I remember being 14 and coming home from school and listening to this for the first time right after it came out, and now I'm 17, about to graduate high school in less than a month.
